Marshall, Louis
(1856-1929)
   American lawyer and communal leader. He was born in Syracuse, New York, and became a partner in a New York legal firm. He was the chief spokesman for the German-Jewish elite in Jewish affairs. In 1912 he became president of the American Jewish Committee. He also served as president of Temple Emanu-El in New York, and chairman of the board of directors of the Jewish Theological Seminary. During World War I he was president of the American Jewish Relief Committee.
